ABOUT
Marianne Agerskov
medical doctor & yoga teacher
I'm a medical doctor, an avid yoga practitioner and an educated Yoga Alliance (E-RYT200 & YACEP) certified yoga teacher.
I have been teaching in the medical field for years and now teach Vinyasa/Hatha & Yin style studio yoga classes, personal yoga-introductory courses and yoga anatomy and physiology for coming yoga teachers. I teach with a focus on translation between theoretical knowledge of anatomy, physiology, psychology and movement science and the functional asana practice, as well as yoga philosophy and foundations for body-mind connection and breath.
I’ve been practicing yoga since 2017, and teaching since 2019 and i'm falling more in love with it every day.
My background is in gymnastics, crossfit and running and I’ve always been physically active, but in very performance based and competitive sports, which is a great drive but equally a great stress. Working in the medical field can be very challenging and, at times, stressful, and I believe most of us experience the need for tools to better find that subtle balance in life.
In a very strugglesome period of my life, I was, by chance, introduced to yoga, and something happened. I must admit that at that time, I was a bit dismissive of the yoga practice, as “I was not a yoga-type of person”. However, my very first yoga class was a Yin and Meditation class, very far away form anything I had ever done before, and I found instant calm and relief. I experienced, for the first time in my life, to be able to switch off the thinking, planning, worrying, controlling part of myself, to become present and relax the mind while on my mat.
As my physical practice evolved, I got curious of the more mental benefits I experienced and how to connect it to my knowledge of physiology. I’m curious from nature, and as a medical doctor, it’s prevalent to me to dive deeper, seeking more information and knowledge. I'm grateful and humbled by the teachers that came before me and first and foremost; I will always stay a student! Being at student also means that you continue to grow and evolve, and I find purpose in passing on the physical and metal benefits of yoga, helping students translate their practice from the mat to thrive in their everyday lives. I believe that bridging the gap between yoga and the medical system can be a crucial therapeutic adjunct to modern healthcare, and facilitating this process is my foremost quest.
Our greatest task in life is to stay open for change, and as it turns out:
"Everybody can be a yoga-type of person”.
Let come what comes, let go what goes.
See what remains
